  • Effects of Fully Ionised Dusty Plasma on the Polarization Properties of Obliquely Incident Electromagnetic Waves

    • This study investigated the effects of fully ionised dusty plasma on the polarization properties of obliquely incident electromagnetic (EM) waves. First, a complex permittivity model of fully ionised dusty plasma was established based on the Fokker-Planck-Landau collision model and orbit motion limited theory. Then, taking X-band right-handed circularly polarised waves as an example, the axial ratio, phase difference, and polarization mismatch loss were obtained using the equivalent transmission line method when the EM waves were obliquely incident on the fully ionised dusty plasma. Numerical results indicated that increasing the incident angle aggravated the polarization mismatch, and polarization reversal occurred at large incident angles. Appropriately increasing the dust radius or dust density increased the critical angle of polarization reversal and decreased the polarization mismatch loss. It is worth noting that the dust radius had the greatest effect. In addition, increasing the incident frequency within the X-band slightly intensified the polarization mismatch. The results of this study provide an important theoretical basis for the polarization matching design of reentry communication links and blackout mitigation.
