  • Hydrolysis model for glistening formation in intraocular lenses

    • We study a hydrolysis model that describes the formation of glistening, known as delayed postoperative opacification of intraocular lenses (IOLs). Considering the effect of fully stretched chains on the free energy of weak polyelectrolyte gels, we compare the model with experimental data on the composition of microvacuoles. Using this model, we discuss the relationship between the physical properties of IOLs and the formation of glistening, as well as its dynamics.
