Pictorial illustration of the entanglement swapping phenomenon. In each subsystem, the moving qubit is interacting with its own environment. Because of the nonperfect reflecting mirrors of the cavities, the photons can leak out of the cavities. Then a Bell state measurement is performed on these photons to establish the entanglement between the qubits.
