An experimental method for quantitative analysis of real contact area based on the total reflection optical principle

The results of experiment: (a) the images under different normal force, where the red area and brightness grow up with the normal force, (b) the curve of normal force and real contact area, the force has been scaled to the nominal contact area considering the whole surface is larger than the recorded nominal contact area.
