(color online) Schematic illustrations of the crystal structure of diaspore-type α-GaOOH for (a) an arbitrary view and (b) a projection view along the c axis, and (c) distorted GaO3(OH)3 octahedron. There are two independent oxygen sites: O2 in ambient conditions covalently bonded to hydrogen (O–H bond), and O1 characterized by a weak H⋯O bond; in the selected octahedron one can distinguish between O1a and O2a atoms at the axial positions and two O1e and two O2e atoms at the equatorial positions.
