The calculated density of the molecules in the the state at the focusing point, i.e., the aperture position on the z axis, as a function of time (at the synchronous molecule is arriving at the aperture) for two types of hexapole. Panel (a) corresponds to the case of the conventional hexpole and panel (b) the 3D focusing one.
