General configuration of the reference (fixed) nanorod (red solid line) and the free nanorod (blue dashed line). The O - xyz and O ′– x ′ y ′ z ′ systems represent respectively the laboratory-fixed frame and the body-fixed frame. The distance r , polar angle θ , and azimuth angle φ describe the relative position of the two centers of mass. The nutation angle α and precession angle β (two Euler angles) determine their relative orientation in the laboratory-fixed frame. The p 1 and p 2 are the dipole moment vectors of the reference and free dipoles, respectively.
